California Mandates Solar Panels for New Buildings
September 11, 2021

The California Energy Commission has officially approved the new law of installing solar panels on all of the new structures in California. The State of California enforced all commercial and residential buildings to reduce carbon emissions using solar energy. Thus, all new houses built in California are required to follow the law and structure the building with planned wiring. The plan also includes encouraging converting to electric sources instead of natural gas heating and other appliances that consume more energy and negatively impact the environment.

All you need to know about installing solar panels for your property:

  • Since this law aims to reduce carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels, the state has effectively provided cheap solar panels for new buildings. These panels are designed to include energy-saving measures and low maintenance. It applies to both solar panels and solar thermal systems. The Federal and California solar programs have worked together to facilitate solar installation at no cost and offer easy conversion for old buildings as well.
  • Solar panels convert the energy from the sun using the photovoltaic cells into electricity. Not only is this sustainable energy, but it also will provide you the advantage of reduced utility bills. In addition, solar panels store the energy for later uses in power outage or stability cases, so you do not have to depend on traditional sources.
  • If you are in real estate and you want to sell your property with installed solar panels, you can profit at a higher price for your property. According to the United States Department of Energy, the buildings with solar panels are estimated to have a higher value of about $15,000 compared to the houses with traditional energy sources.
  • Suppose you are doubtful about the efficiency of solar panels. In that case, you should consider bringing in some changes in your day-to-day life to reduce energy consumption to help the environment. You can start using portable solar chargers to charge your smart devices. You can use stationery and portable lights that run on solar power.
  • You can contact the California Power Payback Program service to see if you are eligible for the free-cost solar conversion program. You can save money as well as install the panels quicker. Once you contact them, they will ask to input information about your property. They will proceed with the documents after their inspection of the information. The whole process might take a week or two.
  • For homeowners of California, the sanctioned law works in favor of the attempt of going green. So, you can look up rebates and tax incentives that are set for installing solar panels. The state offers specific incentives to encourage homeowners to install solar panels sooner and embrace solar power.

California state authorities are optimistic that the new energy plan will be a successful big step to hasten the progress to an eco-friendly future beyond fossil fuels. Although it cannot be guaranteed that the approved law will gain 100 percent success at reducing fossil fuel dependency, it certainly is a promising step to transitioning to alternative energy sources.
