Moving into A New Home During the COVID-19 Pandemic
May 18, 2020

Orchestrating a move during a pandemic while ensuring top safety and sanitization measures can be a difficult task. Today we’ll be looking at a few tips to help you get through the ordeal.

Managing Your Move

Even though moving across states and moving company services fall under essentials which are exempt from the lockdown, companies are now working reduced hours and maintaining a tighter schedule, so you might not be able to hire a moving company in time to help you out with your move. One way to deal with this is by managing your move entirely by yourself. This way, you’ll be able to carry out a safer move as it will limit contact with the movers.

It’s important to do your research before you dive in through. Moving on your own is never easy and so, search online and go through all local moving businesses before making the decision.

Hiring the Right Movers

Minimizing contact is a priority in this case. There are moving companies adopting a contactless moving procedure that allows workers to operate safely. Therefore, do your research and try to hire one which advertises this in particular and hire them to help you move. Moreover, remember to forgo all physical interactions and make your payments through online payment gateways in favor of cash.

Letting Others Around You Know in Advance

Several days before your move, it’s a good idea to let your neighbors know that you will be moving out and that a moving company will be coming by on a specific date and time to help you work through things. This way, your neighbors will be able to plan for the due date and ensure that they do not come in contact with outsiders, and, it gives them the ability to reach out to you just in case that particular date will be causing problems for them. After all, the safety of your neighbors and community should be your top priority and you do not want to be responsible for being the one who puts them in any form of danger.

Take Exhaustive Sanitary Precautions

Throughout your move, ensure that you and your family are wearing masks, boots, and gloves. Although you should expect the movers to have their own protection and sanitization equipment, it always pays off to be extra wary in these situations.

Next, ensure that you disinfect every surface you or the workers come in contact with, by using a proper disinfectant known to be effective against the coronavirus. Moreover, making sure that sanitization equipment such as soaps and hand sanitizers are well within reach for frequent use during the move.

Finally, either purchase a brand-new set of boxes or use the ones you already have in your home. Do not opt for recycled boxes as they will put you in harm’s way given that the COVID-19 virus can live well beyond a day on a cardboard box.

Moving has never been easy, and during a pandemic, everything has just become a lot harder. Therefore, practice these safety precautions to ensure the safety of you, your family, and everyone around you during the move.
