Guidelines For Writing Category Copy for SEO & UX
October 21, 2019

For writing a conventional & useful category copy, you have to focus on keywords, questions, answers, conversations and options. Today, I’m going to discuss the mentioned points which will help you write a category for SEO & UX.

Tips on Writing Good Category Page Copy

The category copy should be simple where the customers can get proper ideas on the products they are interested in buying. If you have enough options, then specify the main features so that customers or visitors can choose the best one based on their needs. Images and subcategories are very effective tools or mediums that engage customers with your page. If customers have questions about a category or product, try to answer them. If your images or leader board collections are huge, go for a new & unique category page design.

How one can Select the Right Keywords?

Keyword selection is relatively tricky. Search with keywords in any sales related page often does not show accurate results. Some people focus more on generic ones rather than keywords.  Subcategories and product pages should be more specific so that customers can get widget related questions and answers. Widgets should have around 6 colors and 6 size options. You can also put more options.

XL & S size widget is good for subcategories. Always try to keep subcategories for the main variations and main category for widgets.

This way will help you to set up internal links upwards, downwards and horizontally for getting a pass from authority.

Is Q&A Good for SEO on Category Pages?

The answer is “yes”. Question -Answer part is helpful for maintaining a good relationship with the existing customers. Q & A is also effective for creating potential customers. If customers get the right answer, they will be interested in the products. But Questions & answers should be categorically specific. Category copy should be included in all sub-categories.

Try to increase conversions With Category Copy

Use the customer-oriented words like “your”, “you will get”, “for you” instead of using “I”, “my”, “mine”, “our”. Because you run your business site for your customers.

Another trick is to include as much info on the products as possible. Suppose, you run a book-based site. Not only mention the price but also include the writer’s name, published year, subject of the book, customers review, etc. It will increase customers’ interest in the product.

Teach Visitors How to Use the Page to Find the Right Options

You can make two versions for your site. One is for mobile devices and another is for desktops. A skilled creative designer can make your task easy. You can use top or left side of the page for setting a sorting or filter option. You can make a video tutorial for your customers where they can get an elaborate idea about your site. It will also teach your customers where to click and how to use the page while helping them search the products easily. Hope, the above-mentioned notes help you increase your organic SEO traffic & conversations.
